The Oberwiesenthal ski area on Fichtelberg offers ideal conditions for winter sports enthusiasts and is a real highlight in the Ore Mountains. With perfectly groomed slopes for beginners, intermediate skiers and pros, it delights skiers and snowboarders alike. Attractive ski pass prices starting at €35 in the early and late season and €41 in peak season make skiing affordable for everyone. The winter sports season usually starts on December 1 and runs until March 31.

But the ski area has even more to offer: Away from the slopes, winter hiking trails, toboggan runs and the breathtaking snow-covered landscape of the Ore Mountains invite you to enjoy unforgettable experiences.

Winter in Oberwiesenthal

The Oberwiesenthal ski area on Fichtelberg is a versatile winter sports paradise for every level. With a total of 15.5 kilometres of slopes—6.8 km easy, 6.1 km intermediate and 1.2 km difficult—there’s something for every winter sports enthusiast. Thanks to modern infrastructure such as the detachable 4-seater chairlift, the cable car and four double drag lifts, getting to the slopes is convenient and easy. The black FIS race course is particularly popular, offering challenging runs. In total, 12.1 km of slopes are covered by snowmaking, ensuring ideal conditions throughout the entire season, which usually runs from December 1 to March 31.

In addition to classic skiing, snowboarders and tobogganing fans can also enjoy winter days here. A 1,200-metre toboggan run leads directly from Fichtelberg down into the valley, while the toboggan slope is also great fun for families. For night owls, the main ski slope has a floodlit run, allowing you to stay on your skis into the evening.

Cross-country skiers and winter hikers won’t miss out in Oberwiesenthal either. The area offers 75 kilometres of well-groomed cross-country trails and 26 kilometres of winter hiking trails, inviting you to take extended tours through the snow-covered landscape of the Ore Mountains. Other highlights include a modern artificial ice rink and the picturesque view of the wintry valley from 1,215 metres on Fichtelberg.

Ski passes cost €35 in the early and late season and €41 in peak season. Daily ski operations run from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with the Fichtelberg cable car open until 5:00 PM. The wide range of options makes Oberwiesenthal one of the most popular winter sports destinations in Saxony—ideal for families, beginners and experienced winter sports enthusiasts.

 

Alongside classic winter sports, ski touring on Fichtelberg is also becoming increasingly popular. Away from the groomed slopes, ski tourers can experience unspoilt nature and tackle the ascent to Fichtelberg at their own pace. The magnificent views of the wintry Ore Mountains and the descent through deep snow-covered slopes make ski touring a truly special experience.
